New tools in teaching vocational subjects – Drvodljeljska škola Zagreb

Baseline / problem
During the distance learning in the Carpentry School Zagreb, the need to introduce new digital tools into the teaching process was recognized. Professor Ankica Rebrović will try to describe some of the tools she uses every day in teaching.

Good practice
"Distance learning is a form of learning and teaching in which the physical presence of students and teachers is not achieved, but the process of learning and teaching takes place in a virtual environment with the support of digital technologies." It is precisely digital tools that she has begun to explore and apply with pleasure in working with students. Professor Rebrović's journey began on the Loomen platform, where she received basic guidelines for creating virtual classrooms through workshops organized by the Agency for Vocational and Adult Education. In the workshops, she got some ideas on how to create a virtual classroom, what resources and activities to use, how to create, share and evaluate teaching materials. Encouraged by the new knowledge, she designed virtual classrooms for the subjects Wood Protection, Practical Teaching 1 and 2, Practicum of Technology and Assembly. Linoit and Padlet are tools that students have enthusiastically embraced because they provide great job opportunities. They are especially used in the repetition of materials, when students put texts, documents, videos or pictures on the virtual board, and they are also common in the introduction to the processing of new teaching content, in the form of a storm of ideas. To create presentations, they use Sway, a Microsoft presentation tool, which has the ability to convert an existing Word document into a presentation, which is convenient if they already have previously prepared documents. Coggle is a digital tool for creating visual summaries. The author states that the advantage of the Coggle tool is simplicity and minimalism, as well as logging in with a Google account. Students make visual summaries at the end of the processed teaching unit. Learning Apps is an application that allows you to create tools according to one of the available templates, and allows you to create tasks for self-learning. Some of the templates we use are the crossword puzzle and the popular „Who wants to be millionaire?“ game.
